60 Seconds With Megan: From Nervous Start to Natural on Camera

Megan
For our second instalment in the 60 Seconds With… series, we caught up with Megan, one of our friendly shop assistants at the Portree Visitor Centre. While stepping in front of the camera initially felt a little daunting, Megan quickly found her stride and even enjoyed the experience more than she expected.

Megan has been part of the candles team for around two years. Originally from Skye, joining the Visitor Centre felt like a natural step for her. After deciding she was ready for a change from her previous job, she was drawn to the welcoming atmosphere she had always noticed as a customer. That familiar, positive vibe made the decision to join the team an easy one and it’s something she now helps create for others every day.

One of Megan’s favourite things about her role is the sense of community across the entire Visitor Centre. It’s not just about the shop, she loves the chance to connect with colleagues from the workshop, restaurant, office, and even the cinema. That variety and social aspect make every day a little different, and a lot more enjoyable.

Of course, no job is without its challenges. For Megan, the least exciting task is counting incoming shop orders, especially when they involve lots of small, fiddly items. It’s a job that requires patience and attention to detail, but she takes it all in her stride as part of the wider role.

On a more sensory note, one of Megan’s favourite moments in the day is that first step into the building, greeted by the unmistakable, comforting scent of our candles. It’s an experience many visitors comment on too and one she still appreciates every shift.

When it comes to personal favourites, Megan hesitates a little to pick just one, but Pimento and Cranberry is her top fragrance, probably. Warm, rich, and full of character, it’s a scent that perfectly reflects her own welcoming presence in the shop.

From nervous beginnings to confident contributor, Megan’s 60 Seconds With… appearance is a lovely reminder of the people who bring our spaces to life. You can see for yourself here
