It's a question that we get asked more than any other... candles or reed diffusers? To settle the debate (at least in our Visitor Centre!), we asked our team to pick their favourite home fragrance option. The results? Much closer than we expected!

After counting the votes, reed diffusers just edged ahead with 8 votes, while candles followed closely behind with 7 votes. A one-vote difference proves there really isn't a wrong answer—it all comes down to personal preference. You can see who voted for which option in our reel. 

Why Reed Diffusers Came Out on Top

For those who voted for reed diffusers, it was all about effortless fragrance. Once they're set up, the diffusers work around the clock, gently filling your home with scent without needing to be lit or monitored.

They're perfect for busy households, welcoming hallways, bathrooms, home offices or anywhere you'd like a consistent fragrance throughout the day. Many of our team also loved that reed diffusers provide continuous scent with very little maintenance, just turn the reeds every now and then to refresh the fragrance. 

Why Candles Still Have Our Hearts

Although candles missed out on the top spot by just one vote, they're still a firm favourite with nearly half of our team.

There's something special about lighting a candle at the end of a long day. The gentle flicker creates an instant feeling of warmth and relaxation, turning an ordinary evening into a cosy moment. Whether it's curling up with a good book, enjoying a bath or hosting friends, candles have a way of making any space feel that little bit more inviting.

For many people, fragrance isn't just about scent. It's about creating an atmosphere, and candles do that beautifully.

Is There Really a Winner?

The truth is, most fragrance lovers don't have to choose just one.

Reed diffusers and candles each have their own place in the home. A diffuser can provide a beautiful, continuous fragrance throughout the day, while a candle can be lit when you want to create a cosy ambience or enjoy a moment of relaxation.

It's less about which one is better and more about what suits your lifestyle, your home and the season.

While reed diffusers claimed victory this time, we couldn't help wondering whether the outcome would be the same later in the year.

As the days grow shorter and the evenings become cooler, there's something undeniably comforting about the glow of a candle paired with rich, seasonal fragrances. Would our team still choose the effortless elegance of a reed diffuser, or would candles steal the crown during autumn and winter?
